Need help setting up NTL broadband

hi i cant get my ntl bb working on my pc. Just upgraded and re-installed windows but cant seem to get it to connect to the net.
I've turned off all firewalls and the cable modem's fine cause I'm using the same connection now on my laptop.
Gone through the help&support a few times and used ipconfig command.
Theres nothing in the default gateway and it says something about disconneted media or something.
is there any programms i can download that will find these settings for me.

I have a ethernet pci adapter and the mobo has its own (asus nvidia) tried putting the wire in both but nothing.
can anyone help.

You have switched the modem off before reconnecting it to a different machine?

Cant believe I never thought of that, was struggling with it all night and day but that did it, works fine now.
