Hay all.

what id like to do is have ntl tv box working but i only got 1 main white round cable going into the virgin media modem then connected to pc for net.

what id like to do is have both tv box and internet on same time.

The virgin media tv box got ethernet port so thinking like setup like this.

(modem)---(pc)---(tvbox) using ethernet ??

I got a splitter for the round white cable (forgot what the proper name is lol

But i don't have anymore of that cable :( thats why think can i do with ethernet at all ?

Thanks for any help cheers.

The reason the set-top box has a ethernet port in it is because it has a built in modem and so can be used to supply internet connectivity. From what i remember though it cant support high speeds, which is why a seperate modem is used.

The only way i know of to do what you want is by getting more of the white cable (Coax cable) and make sure it has the right connectors on, and using the splitter. You can pick it up quite cheap from a few places, but due to forum rules i cant give you links to any decent places.

From what I've read in your post. You need the splitter coming from where the Virgin line comes into your house. One line going off to the modem and one going to the modem, although why NTL/Virgin didnt do this for you makes me ask some suspicious questions....

You just need some coax with "F-Connectors". One short bit to go from your entry point to the splitter, and the lengh you need to go to the TV Box

Thanks guys

I already got a coax splitter just need more Coax cable to go from the spitter to the lead i ask my m8 who works for virgin media to grab me some lol

For now then i leave the tv box alone if the net wont be as fast with it.

Thanks

The boxs wont effect your net speeds.
If you have a mate from Virgin media Im sure he'll be able to show you how to do it!

Having the set top box wired up wont slow the net down for you. What i was talking about, is if you had the wire going only to the set top box and you used its ethernet port to connect to the internet through, THEN it would potentialy be slower due to the limitations of the set top box. Thats what the ethernet port on the box is for, its used as an alternative for the seperate modem that you have.

If you have both a set top box and a seperate modem, but using the modem for internet connection then that will be perfectly fine. Its only if you connect a pc or router to the set top box port that you may find it being slow.
