Hi

I need to set up a public and private network both with wireless access to the internet. Our private network will have a nas drive plugged into it and we want it to be secure from the public network.

I have the following kit:

BT Voyager 2110 modem router
BT/2wire 2700HGV modem router (can this do what I want on it's own? or do I need to connect the two routers?)

Thanks

Pete

You'd need a router that supports multiple SSIDs and some way of segregating traffic - not sure that either mentioned can do either.

I've seen Cisco Aironets used in this way, segregating traffic using VLANs but they are pricey.

Whilst I would recommend doing it properly with separated VLANs and ACLs with some decent networking kit, the organisation doesn't sound particularly flush given you only mention a NAS drive and nothing else. However used Cisco Aironet's are not hugely expensive, neither are use Cisco switches.

If you don't want used, or are put off by the more complex configuration of Cisco equipment, I'd look at getting hold of a router that supports DD-WRT firmware. I currently run a private WiFfi and public WiFi network from one at home and yes, you can ensure full segregation between the two.
