Hi, I'm new to this so i needed some advice and help for my new computer. As I will be needing a computer for university.

The PC will be used for Hardcore Gaming and other personal uses as browsing the web, listening to music or large use of multi-tasking...But mainly for Gaming. I would like it to keep up with the latest games in the future (Future-Proof).

I've been looking at specs such as intel i7 or AMD Phenom II but I don't know what to go for. And which one is better?

My Budget is 500-900 Max, But I would not like to use all of it.

Thanks a lot :)

If you need the whole lot then this would be an extremely good pc for the price:

Comes to £892.70 without free-posting and packaging though the memory aswell as gfx card are currently out of stock however you could pay a bit extra to get the Powercolor version which is in stock. The above spec is very nice too.(siumatfung's)

Thanks for the specs guys, just wondering if i should go for the Geforce 295 and is it better than the 4890?

-Btw I do not need a monitor/keyboard + Mouse, as I'll be using my Samsung 20".

Cheers

no a 295 is completely unneccessary and not worth the money, a 275 or 4890is plenty, especially on a 20" monitor
8 gig of RAM isnt needed for gaming, 4 gig is plenty
Given you dont need monitor etc this is about the best youll get, imo
Incl 4890 over the 275 as that mobo supports xfire so if you ever did upgrade your monitor you coul add a 2nd card later if needed

Thanks a lot 95thrifles I really appreciate your help. I think i'll be going with your spec mate. Btw I'm thinking of upgrading my monitor to 24" any suggestions?

Cheers

Well youve got 2 chouces, youve got the cheaper option around 200-250 where the samsungs dominate, the T240 looks good here, or youve got the high end (400-450) where you invest in one for years, either the Dell 2408 or HP LP2475W (Ive got this one)

If your budget is up to 900 and that you want to have change to spare, then going for a gtx295 is out of the question..

One of them card alone will cost you 340+, you will end up being extremely tight on budget for the remaining components. It is better to have a better overall package than the best graphics card and not enough to make the most out of it.

The main thing you need to think about is your motherboard, because it is very unlikely that you will be replacing that part at anytime soon. It is the foundation to your pc.

I would worry more about the motherboard and cpu first.

p.s AMD = bang for buck, strong in gaming but loses out to the i7 when it comes to multitasking especially if you do graphics and uses designer software a lot.
