right ok my little 9 yr old brother has just spilt some strawberry flavoured volvic all over my ntl cable modem, now that it has dried the modem will only work when directly connected to by one pc, the router no longer works, but the router was on a different shelf than the modem and had no water spilt on it, is it possible that it was short circuited by the ethernet lead it had going into the modem? i have restarted everything and tried several times with no luck, i can only connect to the internet through the modem, i can however connect to the router and talk to its built in firmware, so is the lead going from the router to the modem knackered?

No, the LAN ethernet port on the modem is probably buggered, not the cable.

Rent your little brother out to a restaurant so he can wash up until he's paid it back! ;)

I know im not helping but balance needs to be restored in the world. So I advise you to stamp on his favourite toy. Upon doing this the router might work again :D

Its the truth.

When you say the router doesnt work, what is it doing/not doing?

i figured the problem out, somehow the water must have made my router lose the connection to the modem, all i had to do was go into the firmware, clear the NVRAM and set it back to factory defaults, it worked instantly after that, im surprised the modem works it was like a swimming pool

but how? the thing was drenched, its was full of water i had to turn it upside down and shake it about and about 100ml of water came out of it, this must be the best thing ntl have made because their interactive service and tv guide are absolute tosh
