Hoping someone can give me a bit of a hand, I'm running out of ideas on how to fix a Steam problem I'm having and it's making me !

I can connect to Steam fine, and join games that are hosted on 'proper' servers.

Since about 20th - 25th December however, I've lost the ability to host my own servers, on Killing Floor and CS Source - and I can't join servers that friends are hosting online, only on LAN. The only way in KF to join is to see the IP that the server is 'not responding' on, copy it, then click 'open IP' and paste the address in, then it'll connect - but I can't do this in CS. :(

However, if I log my Steam account into my laptop... I can host a game fine! (on wireless)

Things I've tried to fix this so far without success include:

1) Swapping my Netgear router for a Belkin
2) Adding in a PCI network card into my PC
3) Booting my PC under its ageing WinXP install, and trying KF
4) Deleting clientregistry.blob from Steam folder
5) Deleting entire contents of Steam folder except for 'SteamApps' and re-downloading everything
6) Uninstalling KF, and re-installing

I hadn't realised this was affecting CS until last night, as I don't play it a lot so only just found that out. I know everything is pointing towards a hardware issue... but... WHAT hardware?

I'm not really wanting to do a full wipe and re-install of Windows only to be presented with the same error message. I'm going to see if I can find a USB wireless adapter for my PC, not sure if I still have one. I don't know why this might work... but it's worth a try.

Anyone got any ideas? Anything you can suggest will be appreciated!

Can't hurt to try, will try disabling it. The PITA is finding a friend online, who isn't busy and doesn't mind testing it every time!

Yeah turning off the Windows firewall sorted it.

Don't really want to have to do that every time I play games, but I'll try resetting the firewall to default... or if needs be I'll go back to running a software firewall.
