Guys I need your help!

I had some bird poop on my car and like an eejut I thought it would be a good idea to remove said bird mess with a scourer cloth. I have now got a scratched area and t-cut wont fix it.

They arent deep scratches more just light scuff marks. I do have some Halfords rubbing compound but am not entirely sure how to use it.

Could I use wet sand paper (2000 grit)?

Any advice would be great.

Ladies and Gentlemen, lend me your grandest facepalms!

And then we'll help. You might still be able to polish it out by hand. Just don't use your scourer polishing cloth.

Oh I'm such a tool I know, I was well pee'd off when I did it :p

Been looking at some tutorial vids on youtube and most use rubbing compound and then a polish. Seems to do the trick.

It'd be a good idea for me to learn how to remove the scratches as the car has other lights scratches that also need attention.

I've had to quote that for future reference & general hilarity. :p

In my honest opinion I advice you to Step away from the vehicle & let somebody/anybody else do it for you. :p

Somebody at work did this trying to get tar off his Smart Roadster, I lent him my DAS6 and some Meguiars 101/205 to get the scratches out.

Okley dokley, I have got myself down to halfords and bought some Turtlewax polish and a little tube of turtlewax scratch remover which I believe is just a rubbing compound.

I have managed to get some of the shine back onto the scratched area however I can still see the scratches. Am I doing something wrong and how do I remove the scratches? Please note the scratches are not deep and you cant even feel them when you run your finger over them so why am I struggling to get shut of them?

The area is also quite dull now.

When I get home from work tomorrow I'm going to give the bodywork a good wash and try again.

Post a picture?

I'll have to do it tomorrow now.

I have joined a detailers forum and hopefully get some more assistance there. Been looking at the Meguiars stuff and it gets good ratings.

Having scratched the car today has made me want to remove some of the other scratches that are on the car. I never realised there was so much to it though.

I like the Meguiars DA Power system which allows you to fit an attachment to an electric drill for compounding, polishing and waxing. Not cheap like. :)

A scouerer as in the plastic green one on the back of a sponge? They will be tiny scratches and will polish out easily by hand.

Yep that's the one.

I purchased some Meguiars compound and will give I another bash tomorrow and report back.

as said above should come out really easy by hand

problem will be when that patch looks so much better than the rest of the car and you need to do every other panel. thats the only time youl need a machine

Which compound? The scratces will only be small but depending on your car it may take a couple of goes to remove them. If you were closer I would bring my machine round as that would do it quick and easy.

If it is dried on its best to get an old rag / kitchen towel that is soaked with a strong soap and water mix and just leave it on top of the bird bomb for a few minutes. It should them be soft enough to remove easily :)

Meguiar's ScratchX 2.0 gets good reviews for removing scratches by hand. Just have to work it in a couple of times.
