Hello! first post here, I have a ASRock H97M Pro4 Motherboard with a Gforce GTX 760 GPU and a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30Ghz CPU, i also have 16gb of ram.

Now the question is what i should upgrade to if i want photoshop and similar programs to run smoother, I thought it would be the CPU but then someone said the GPU is more important for these programs.

Any Help would be most appreciated!

photoshop is intel and core speed bound, throwing more cores at the program wouldn't help but speed would. only uses gpu lightly .

Lighroom and aftereffects again loves intel and CORES + Speed.

Prem pro loves Cores and works just as well with intel or AMD

as a start, clock your CPU higher ! if its on the stock CPU cooler, get a better one

Thanks a lot for the info Orbitalwalsh! I'm checking what kind of processor i could get for my motherboard (using this website http://processormatch.intel.com/)
This seems to be the best:

4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4790K | Frequency: 4.00 GHz

Witch seems to be hard to buy now, i wonder what motherboard i could get so i can get a better CPU? It needs to be the same size/ cause i have a pretty small chassi.

Again any help would be most appreciated :)

The trouble is your at a crossroads, you either need to think about upgrading using old parts or invest in a newer motherboard, CPU, and memory.

On a budget it’s hard to argue against a Ryzen 2600 for a value upgrade but as @orbitalwalsh said what processing effects depend on whether Intel is your friend, however price/performance just isn’t there at the moment due to Intel CPU shortages.

Ah but it only says 3,2 ghz on the link, what motherboard do you think i should get if im gonna upgrade to a newer processor and do motherboards generally have the same size? (thinking of my chassi size witch is a bit smaller than a standard one) I have some budget.

Ah but of course, My case is this one https://skinflint.co.uk/bitfenix-phenom-m-black-bfc-phm-300-kkxkk-rp-a1007223.html.

I just read that the motherboard it supports are
microATX or Mini-ITX.

whats the difference between these? Im guessing MicroATX is better, whats a good MicroATX motherboard and processor combo with a high clock speed? Pref Intel if that's what Photoshop prefers. Im trying to sus it out myself but i don't wanna buy the wrong parts. Any help would be most appreciated.

MATX not necessarily better but more options, ITX boards not much choice and all top end.. the board you have is the larger MATX and that case is tight to fit.. but you already know that. I don't know enough about photoshop to know what you would gain from an upgrade. @orbitalwalsh , can you spec up a MATX board CPU, RAM, M.2 etc for Boulle

Depends on the budget

Non K 6 core 12 threads, 4.3ghz all core boost. Would need a decent cooler .
Blitz through most Adobe programs
