Hi

sorry for starting another what graphic cards right for me thread but i'd appreciate some advice
or recommendations please on what to replace an aging saphire 512mb 4870 toxic with

i put together my main pc last year, ud5h, 3570k, 620 antec cooler, 2 x 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance
DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz kits, main drive is a 128gb vertex4, Enermax 620w psu & its all in a FTO2w.

i didnt have the funds to renew the card then so thats why i kept it but recently its been playing up,
so its time to retire it ;)

as usual, i've been away from the oc/gaming scene for ages & im not sure what would suit me best,
im not into gaming as much as i used to but i'd like to get back into playing games at decent levels
with all the eye candy turned on. i also do some photo & vid editing if that makes a difference ?

also, im still using an old 19" sony SDM-HS94P tft from 2005/2006, its display is 1280x1024,
its still working fine but i might upgrade this too to something bigger & faster ;)
i'd probably go up to a 24" LCD but i'd also like it to have the grunt for a 40" Sony 40HX853 smart tv as well.

i'd also prefer a single card otherwise i'd need to upgrade the psu as i run a few media drives as well (1tb & a 2tb)
i could stretch for a gtx760 or a gtx770 or something from amd like a 7970 so i'd appreciate it if someone
could give me a few recommendations.

thanks :)

7970 appears to be good "bang for buck" at the moment, lower down would be the 7850 or 7870, if a single 1080p screen is what you want, all 3 should perform well, or so I read.

You'll definitely want to upgrade your monitor if you get a new GPU. A basic 1080p monitor can be obtained for peanuts really nowadays.
7970s and 7950s are very good choices at their current prices and many people would recommend them.

thanks for the above advice, well, i went & got a BenQ 2411T ;) so still need to pick a card
& because i need 8 pin pcie plugs, im going to have to upgrade the old enermax liberty 620w psu
as well as it only has 2 x 6pin, i could get a cable for about £10 but i'd rather get a new 850w psu.

so, back to the original question, can anyone recommend something thats go with the new screen
& a 357k with everything maxed out, would also prefer to pay a bit more for something thats going
to last for a few years.

i was thinking maybe a gtx760 or either a 7870 or 7950 ?

thanks
