Hi there.

I know you must get loads of these posts asking for assitance on components etc. for people computers so sorry again in advanced :p

I bought the components and built it just over a year ago now and I feel it's time for an upgrade. Below is the list of components for my computer:

Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2180 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.00GHz (800FSB)
Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit x2
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply
Leadtek GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)
Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7191S 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Lightscribe ReWriter (Silver)
Lian-Li PC-7A PLUS II Aluminium Midi-Tower Case
LG L204WS 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Silver/Black

NOTE: I've overclocked my CPU to 3ghz

I have roughly £300-£400 (£400 being the max) to spend but want to keep the costs down.

I was thinking of upgrading my CPU to a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) and GPU to a XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) which would be around my budget though would this be a major upgrade for me or do you recommend something else?

I like to game and mainly play COD4, WOW and other games but those two being the main ones along with running several applications etc.

Thanks again and if you need more information etc. just let me know.

unless you plan to upgrade your screen to a 24" or similar i wouldnt bother updating the graphics card for the time being.

being as u have the abit ip35 how about going for a q6600, maybe move over to a AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core or similar.

You already have a good barebone so I would sprend that much on it now. You get at least one upgrade out of your motherboard.

This is what I would do..

Put in another 2Gb of the same £19.54 - That will be good boost if your using Vista esp 64bit

If you manly play games a lot a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
