I need some help valuing the following camera equipment. The equipment belonged to my sister who passed away suddenly last month :( . I know absolutely nothing about DSLR’s, but I’ve been tasked with getting resale costs for this equipment by my family to pass onto the lawyers dealing with her estate.

Photography was a big part of my sister life and it gave her a lot of enjoyment.

Sony DSLR A350 + Manual (May Have Box)
Sony Flash HVL-F42AM + Manual (May Have Box)
Sony NPFW50 Battery – New in Box
Sony SLT-A55V (May Have Box and Manual)
Minolta Lens EX Sigma 10-20mm Lens (1.4-1.6 DC)
Sony SAL1855 18-55mm Lens
Sony SAL55200 55-200mm Lens
Sony Battery Charger BC VM10
Sony Battery Charger BC VW1
Sony Cybershot DSC-W50 (6.0 Megapixel)

I'm sorry for your loss, but would it not be easier to email this list to someone like London Camera Exchange, or based on your location a similar shop in Edinburgh? They'll buy and sell used camera equipment and will give you a total price.

It's pretty useless anyone here giving you a price from their head. All they'll do is look at how much the same item is selling for on eBay which is something you can easily do if you want.

I wouldn't be expecting mega bucks either, the first DSLR listed was only £250 brand new 4 years ago and batteries etc are most likely worth very little if anything at all.

http://www.ffordes.com/ and http://www.mifsuds.com/ might also be worth contacting. Although they're not based in scotland they both deal via mail order.

You could also have a look round the classified section on talkphotography.co.uk. Like OcUK they don't let you post till you've been on the forum a while. I'm don't know if you're allowed to browse.

An A55 was advertised at £325 in September but didn't sell. Ffordes are advertising the A55 used with an 18-55 for £299.

Mifsuds are advertising an A350 @ £239 (because they're a bit old fashioned they list all Sony stuff in their Minolta section.

Bare in mind that the dealers will buy at a lower price, and will probably be selling at a higher price then you'll achieve with a private sale.

To the OP, sorry about your loss.

K.C Leblanc has mentioned two very reputable dealers, however one slight mistake was made.

Ffordes were originally set up in the South of England at Byford, then they moved to Westcliff-on Sea. In 2001 they moved North to Scotland, taking their entire store with them :)

Their address and contact details are

Ffordes Photographic Ltd
The Kirk
Wester Balblair

Phone: 01463 783 850
Fax: 01463 782072

They are a pleasure to deal with, have a massive stock of second hand and Vintage equipment and also sell second hand stock on a commission basis, so your items get listed, they then take a commission based on the selling price. You don't actually have to sell the equipment to them, they sell it for you. I would give them a ring.
