I've been trying to get my head around overclocking my 3570k on my asus v gene board. Just trying to keep things simple for now I have opted to use the asus cpu level up app No matter what option I select i.e. 4.2, 4.4 or 4.6 upon reset the program pops up saying success at the selected speed. But and heres the part I can't understand everytime I go back into the asus software and monitor the cpu speed it will for the first few seconds report the selected speed i.e. 4.2, 4.4 or 4.6ghz with the bclk at 100mhz and the multiplier at 42, 44 or 46. But after a few seconds the multiplier jumps down to 16 then it might go up to 30 then back to 16 then 40 odd again then 16 etc etc. It will jump around for about 30 seconds or so then settle at 16 and sit there.
The CPU temps are fine at 29degrees. One thing that also strikes me as odd is the same app reports the memory installed to have a maximum bandwidth of 667mhz. I have 8gb of patriot 1866EL series memory. Only purchased the 1866 mhz over 1600mhz stuff to give me the extra headroom for overclocking ffs.
Any suggestions?
