Hi guys,

My PC is pretty much on its last legs and it's time for an upgrade.

I am not really certain what is and is not good these days. I have a budget of £700 I do not need a case or a PSU (I believe a corsair HX620 is still good). Not sure if the PNY GTX needs replacing (would be nice to have a machine that can run Titanfall but I could always upgrade to this later). I would like a SSD and an OS (which is better, 8.1 or 7). I also need a new screen which I can push the budget out to £800 if needed.

Anyone able to help?

• The gfx card comes with five free games.

I think your PSU will be ok and you can use your little HDD as a small storage drive.

The only concerns are that your case (the one in your sig?) will accept the GFX card and the 157mm tall cooler.

Hi guys,

Wow. Thanks very much for the responses. My GPU is. 460 (was supposed to put it on the original post).

The Akasa 62 is a huge case which I believe can take up to extended ATX motherboards (got it because of the length of the old 8800 graphics cards.

I'll take a look at the specs you have put together and see which will work for me. Thanks again.

Hi stulid,

The Akasa 62 eclipse case dimensions are 460 x 240 x 560mm (H x W x L). I doubt the motherboard , mountings and CPU depth will exceed 80mm. I brought the case precisely because it would be the last case I will ever need :D

Guys I was wondering what is the main difference between AMD and Intel these days?

Back when I first started building PC's the AMD Athlon was the Chip to get. Then I made a big jump into the Core 2 Duo I own today. I read that AMD are lagging behind Intel on performance but their chips are much more affordable. Is it worth sticking with Intel and paying the premium or moving back to AMD and If so what so I gain/lose in gaming terms?

The intel is a faster chip but as you say you get a lot for your money with AMD.

But some games such as BF4 work very well on the AMD's extra cores/threads.
