I am looking to build myself a new PC. I am not a heavy gamer but would like a half decent graphics card. Can anyone think of any cheaper equivalents or anything I have missed?

some of the items I have found are from other sites so I’ll just put the item name and price.

Case - £55 - Coolermaster Masterbox MB320L ARGB Micro-ATX Case

Graphics card - £159 - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1650 OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCIe

Power Supply - £55 - Be Quiet! System Power 9 500W 80 Plus bronze power supply

Motherboard - £160 - Gigabyte Z490M (Socket LGA 1200) DDR4 Micro-ATX Motherbord

CPU Cooler - £60 - BE QUIET Dark Rock 4 135mm Silent Wings Fan CPU Cooler

RAM - £75 - Crucial ballistix 3200Mhz DDR4 DRAM 16GB (8GB x 2) CL16

SSD - £55 - Crucial MX500 500GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD

HDD - £55 - WD Blue 2TB HDD 5400 RPM

I calculate this at approx £700 - can anyone offer any ‘upgrades’ or similar products for cheaper?

Thanks

Processor?

Considered an AMD Ryzen build?

There's going to be a lot of new stuff coming out over the coming months. It could be worth waiting if you aren't in too much of a hurry.

Ideally I’d start ASAP, rather than wait whilst I’ve got the money. I would consider a Ryzen, only reason I chose Intel is that’s what I’ve used all my life with every PC/Laptop I’ve ever had.

£159 for a non-super? Gets a definite nope from me.

Super? Can you suggest anything else?

Thanks both

That case will work, just added the Kolink as it is cheaper.

Please wait for other advice as well. I have no experience with Ryzen, so someone may offer better alternatives.

I don't think their would be much in it with a RX580 as GPU although the 3600 would pull ahead a bit, if you can manage to find a 3300X in stock anywhere for a decent price then that performs almost the same and sometimes better as it has a monolithic die.

You could always drop in a 4600X/4700X next year as the board has confirmed Zen 3 support but if you dont want to change out the CPU in the future then going with the 3600 now would be the best option.

I also assume the 3100 comes with cooler?

Yes and its the same cooler that comes with the 3600, it will do the job but its not brilliant by any stretch and would be easily beaten by even a budget option like this.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £29.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

I couldn't tell whether your budget was in fact £700, or up to ~£880ish as your initial spec had no CPU :p

But I would stretch to get the 3600 and 1660S if you don't want to have the upgrade itch sooner rather than later again. All round that is a good set of components below, including a 3600MHz RAM kit, solid PSU with 10yr warranty and modular cables, new B550 board, 1TB NVMe etc.

Also chucked in a new B550 board for better future compatibility and features. Not sure on stock ETA so you'd have to check with OcUK.

That motherboard has been on pre-order for over a month now so would check with OCUK if they have a firm ETA before ordering. Same with the ram which would be my prefered choice had it been in stock right now. All depends on how much of a hurry you are to get it built.

Yeah I knew it had been pre-order for ages, that's why I said to ask OcUK for stock ETA. As it'd be a damn good board for mATX builds at that price point.

You'd like to hope Gigabyte have got their logistics sorted by now.

If it has to be in stock today, then I'd get something like the below then.

The Jonsbo cooler is optional, but a good shout by Joxeon for a budget one that performs well, to replace the stock Ryzen cooler which is just 'ok' otherwise. (I guess the RGB matches your choice of case also :p)

Seems like a lot of the gigabyte B550 stuff has been a bit of a paper launch up till now with every single one of thier boards either out of stock or on pre order on OCUK although some can be found at other retailers.

Haha, well the case I did want more subtle, something like this:

My basket at overclockers uk:
Total: £111.05 (includes shipping: £11.10)

But it’s a little bit more expensive

While its a nice case I just think for a limited budget spending a lot on a case will give the PC no performance benefits and would be the first thing I would look to cut down the spend on over other components.

Yeah that's a midi-case (ATX) so more cost, better build quality and more features etc. There are other cheaper subtle cases if that's what you're after which are just as good - still more money, but less than the 500DX.

But if you then also wanted an ATX mobo, you'd have to increase mobo cost to £150+ region as the B450 Tomahawk Max is out of stock, so you'd be looking at B550 ATX - unless you find it elsewhere in stock at a decent price. Or you could just stick with an mATX board in an ATX case... Just think that would look odd though personally lol

Are you willing to go 2nd hand? Clearance here gives 90 days warranty (and of course some manufacturers still honor manufacturers warranty on 2nd hand goods). Clearance here is also haggle basis, so really the more you get, the better deal you could get.

There's another 2nd hand store that gives 2 years warranty, not as cheap as ebay, but equally less than new (usually). Can be a lottery as to brand though.
