Need help with AMD cards

I've started a racing sim build and the monitor is an Ultrawide Samsung with Freesync so the build is going to be AMD. I'm pretty sure I know which CPU/mobo I'm getting but don't really know where I am with the AMD GPUs.

Is the Radeon 5700XT the one to go for is there something else I should look at?

Just to check, I am right in saying only the Radeon cards work with Freesync?
 
Nvidia have appropriated Freesync and are now doing a "G Sync compatible" thing on Freesync monitors. So, only Nvidia cards with with G Sync, but Nvidia cards can also work with Freesync.

As for AMD cards, the new RX 6000 series will be announced on Wednesday, so keep your eyes peeled for reviews and stock over the next month. Looking like AMD are going to get right up in Nvidia's face this generation.
