Hello All,

Basically my dad managed to run my ford focus 1.8 zetec dry of petrol, I started the car tried to move and the car just died, started choking.

So ive gone to asda and got some petrol filled her up with about £7 about 5-6 litres of petrol.
But now it doesn't seem to want to start. Tried for a long time pumped throttle, still no luck. Am i missing something?...

Any help appreciated thanks! :(

Might have picked up all the crud at the bottom of the tank. I'm sure someone will be along with some better/more comprehensive advice but my first instinct would be to change the fuel filter.

You got anybody that can tow you round the block ? If so stick it in 3rd & hold your foot flat to the floor till it starts.

The old crud in the bottom of the tank is a myth, have you ever tried to carry a bowl of water in a car, now imagine how much you tank is sloshing around churning everything up, it may well be correct for 1950's ford prefects when the tanks were steel but not now.

How long did you wind it over for? it'll take time to get the petrol through.

Not sure whether its crud as such, but I blew the fuel pump fuse doing a similar thing - ran the car way into the reserve but not dry (probably had about a litre left), filled it up, went to start up again and it just chugged and died.

Might be worth checking out if it has any fuses or relays that it could have blown when you turned it over. Also check if there's a cutoff switch which might have been tripped for whatever reason.

I tried to turn it over for quite a while. At least 10 minutes of doing it. should be plenty?

I check the fuses but im quite a noob with cars, Not sure how to check the relays or the cut off switch?

Sorry to post a lot but i also had the breakdown come out, They said it was the coil pack? ive changed it still no luck...not happy

Thank you so much!! It was a fuse! Life saver

Did you pay for the coil pack from the breakdown service ? I would be making a complaint myself, fuses and relays should be the first things they check ! It's so basic that the mind boggles...
