Gibabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H

4 x 1.8V DDR2 DIMM sockets supporting up to 16 GB of system memory (Note 1)
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for DDR2 1200 (OC)/1066(Note2)/800/667 MHz memory modules

* No idea with Note 1 and 2 is...

I have been on all major memory sites OCZ, Crucial, Kingston etc etc and its just too confusing.

I need some ram that is DDR2 1200 around the £50-70 mark but its not as simple as that as theres all this voltage **** to worry about and if i use an AM2+ or AM3 cpu...

I'll be putting the Phenom 965 in this board along with the elite330/psu combo

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Something like these will be fine, manually adjust the voltage in the BIOS to 2.1v.

Note 2 see below, for the price difference between this and PC6400 I would with the above memory.

(Note 2) Whether 1066 MHz or above memory speed is supported depends on the CPU being used

ok thanks, i presume the 965 will support it no problems but if it did not it would default down to the 1066mhz or would it just fail to work.

EDIT:

Something like these will be fine, manually adjust the voltage in the BIOS to 2.1v.
You mean adjust to 1.8v as thats only what the mobo supports.

The JEDEC spec for DDR2 was 1.8v.
All DDR2 that runs at 800 and beyond requires that voltage to be increased to 2v+ as the increase in speed from the original specification requires more voltage to get more speed.
All manufacturers will state what voltage they recommend you run their memory at for the kit you want.

The Gigabyte motherboard you are wanting advice for will allow you to change the voltage to suit the kit you want it is just stating the JEDEC spec of 1.8v for the ram sockets.

To clarify all this:-

This motherboard will allow you to change the voltage to beyond 1.8v.

The Phenom 2 965 doesnt run the memory at 1200,DDR2 800 is more than enough for this chip.

You dont need DDR2 1200,and with the prices of DDR2 800 and DDR2 1066 so close now it's better to go for DDR2 1066.

OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual ...

Patriot Viper II 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) ...

Thoughts on these 2?
