I want a new graphics card to be able to run the majority of the latest games at 1280x1024, high detail and good frame rates (never below 30).

Right now, i have an overclocked 7900GT 256MB(Core 635MHz, Mem 1680MHz), Opteron 165, 2Gb memory, and a 600W enermax noisetaker PSU.

Ive not followed any hardware news since i bought my current system about 2 years ago, so i dont know enough to decide myself. eg back then, the latest ati cards generally performed better than nvidia in some games, equal in others, is this still the case?

Price isnt really an issue, however im worried about bottlenecking which would mean paying extra money for no extra performance.

Any help/advice is appreciated :)

Well the nVidia 8800GT is currently great price/performance ratio, might be overkill for that system though, not to mention silly demand for it so prices are higher than their RRP.

The ATI HD3850 and HD3870 range are also good, the HD3850 has about the same price/performance ratio as the 8800GT but is cheaper (so therefore performs slightly less). If you're going to be keeping it for a while, and not upgrading the rest of the system, then get a 512Mb card for some extra future-proofing, although for *most* games 256Mb is still enough at 1280x1024.
