Need Help With Choosing A New Monitor.

Hello all,

I've had my current monitor for nearly seven years (see sig) and it's been great. However, now I think I've reached a point where I could do with more desktop space, a higher refresh rate (for my eyes if nothing else), and a greater resolution. I don't think I'll be going above 1440p, but if someone can convince me that 4K is worth it now then fair enough.

The problem is I don't have much of an idea of whether to go for a G-Sync screen, and also, if I should be looking at the super widescreen monitors. My current monitor is an IPS one, but should I consider TN or any other type?

Can someone help me sort out the wheat from the chaff? :D

Thanks.

I should add that although I have no set budget, I would like to get something at a half decent price if possible. I tend to stay away from bleeding edge tech, but even so, I'll consider any suggestions. :)

Another thing I should have added earlier : I use my screen for gaming, video editing, watching films / YouTube.

Are the Acer ones worth considering?

Are the super widescreen monitors more for work based use?

I'm not sure if I want to be tied to one type of monitor so I 'may' not go for a G-Sync screen. I have also read that Freesync might be the way to go (long term). Bit confused here.

@peahead : how do you find the quality (TN)?

You really wont find a better quality TN panel than in the dell it really is rather good for a TN panel and i came from using an ips panel.

With something tweaking and using some of the profiles people have created im really pleased with it.

It does look like a nice screen and the price is pretty good, too.

The wide screen monitors that are like 2560x1080, - are they blocky in comparison to something that has more pixels in the same dimensions (1440p +)?

Damn...just realized the bottom two monitors are 60hz. I guess those are out. :/

Hmmm the more I think about, the more I like the look of the Dell mentioned further above :

Also, what does it mean when you see a horizontal & vertical number for frequency?
