Need help with decision

At the moment considering of upgrading mobo/ram/cpu. Currently on a S939 Athlon 64 3200+.

Anyways my budget for these 3 parts are around about 300 and im torn between either a Q9550 or Phenom II 940 Black Edition.

I know the performance between these cpu's are simliar and was wondering what motherboard you would recommend for the AM2+? Would it be better to extend my budget a bit more for socket AM3 board and a 945?

DDR3 and AM3 would be a slightly more futureproof upgrade (and a bit faster) :)


If I had to choose between the q9550 and 940 I'd go 940 but that's a personal preference (not much between them as you say).

Dont think i can stretch as far as 365 for the 955 as i need to get a cheapo dvd drive and wireless card.

What board for the 940 would be recommended?

I've spent months slagging off the 940 to one of my mates who has it and im now considering buying it :o
 
Well the 940 is the same as the q9550, but quite a bit cheaper iirc!
Go for the 940, it's epic :)

Or why not save money on going for an AM3 720 or 550 use the saved money to get DDR3 RAM and an AM3 mobo?
