Need help with dell e6220 laptop BIOS

Hi, I bought a dell e6220 about a year ago and i thought it was a good idea to put a password on the dell BIOS. Now I've needed to format my windows because i bought a windows 8 and wanted to upgrade. I need to access the BIOS to change the boot device to my external cd-rom and I've forgotten the password to the BIOS.

I've tried numerous things to reset the password like updating the BIOS but everything i do it needs the password and for the life of me i cannot remember what it was.

Please is there anyway to reset it? Would taking out the BIOS battery inside the laptop help? although i'm cautious to open it. Can anyone recommend some software to fix it maybe?

ring dell they can give you a code to get past it. They will need to confirm that its you that brought it though
