Need help with DVI to VGA

I just fitted this mother board.

But my monitor has the white DVI socket (not sure of the correct name)
I need an adaptor from VGA to DVI but there seem to be two different types and the adapter I have doesn't fit.
The one on the monitor has 24 sockets and one wee slot beside it

The adapter I have has two wee pins top and bottom of the slotted pin (for want of a better word) and doesn't fit.

Any advice and thanks.

That is a DVI-D (dual link) socket on that motherboard. From your description, this is the same as the one on the monitor. So you need a DVI-D dual link cable.
