hi guys,

really need someone's help here.

i have the AS Rock K7S41GX mobo with 2800 sempron and 1 gb kingston ddr ram.

Everything works fine except the following 'anomalies':

1. has onboard gfx which can display 1440x900
2. installing official gfx drivers from AS Rock site gets rid of the yellow exclamation mark in 'Device Mgr' but cannot output 1440x900 (so weird!!)
3. Because of point 2 and lack of a solution, i have bought AGP 9800xt

4. No option to in Bios to disable onboard gfx and the manual looks as though you don't need to except for an option for main display type which i have set to 'AGP' (other option was PCI).
5. upon installing AGP card (with power connector connected) and plugging in vga adaptor, the computer powers on but with no display. why???
6. have another AGP card and the same thing happens. Surely not both of them faulty?? (both have been taken from friend's working pc)
7. Upon removing the agp card and auto switching back to onboard gfx, there is no screen. Solution to this was to boot up with the vga cable disconnected and then inserted whilst the pc was booting up/on (for it to recognise that there's no agp anymore??)

Any help with this most appreciated!!

Surely it's not a jumper on the motherboard itself?

You'd expect this to be automatic when a card is installed in the AGP slot.

Not a whole lot of help but I wouldnt of got the driver from the AS Rock site, I would have gone to the chipset vendors site. In this case SiS.

The only other advice I could suggest is possibly clearing the CMOS and booting up with the AGP card installed.

Taken from the AS Rock site might help

Question (Q&A-44|176): I use 775VM800/P4VM800/K7S41GX/K7S41 motherboards. Do these models support 1440x900 resolution?(7/21/2006)

Answer:If your board is 775VM800, please update BIOS to P1.50 or later version.

Pretty sure it's not a jumper setting and that it's automatic when an AGP card is detected.

Have updated the bios to the latest version as well.

Not tried installing latest drivers from SiS though so will give that a go... this might give me 1440x900 res but still won't really help with my 9800xt install? :(

thanks for the comments though.. really appreciated it!

Try disabling onboard share memory for graphics if possible, may be set to auto or a specific size. Choosing AGP over PCI is right.

Tried this...

http://www.wikihow.com/Disable-the-...-a-New-Graphics-Card-in-Your-HP-Pavilion-6630

Not a HP-Pavilion-6630 but same on all mobos i think.

tried doing this, get to that screen with boot up options and my arrow keys (or any other key for that matter) won't respond. I tried it with another keyboard and still no joy at the same point.

Keyboard isn't faulty...defo something else.

Anyway, i've since been on the website faq section and it does say something about installing latest sis drivers.

Tried running the setup but it's saying it can't detect the 'device'... gawwwd.

Just got some success with installing almost latest drivers from SiS.

At least i can now have access to 1440x900 with the screen not tearing :)

Shame about my agp gfx though... really stumped. going to give up on it. that's about all my knowledge of PCs expended there :P
