Hello, first post here :-)

I am building a new setup for ultrawide 1440p gaming (mainly Star Citizen and games like the new Assassins Creed). specs below. I am not sure about what ram sticks I should go for. The motherboard supports 2 slots with OC capability up to 4500Mhz and I was hoping to use 2 16Gb sticks.

Which of the following g-skill memories should I go for, all are 32GB (16GBx2):

  • F4-3866C18D-32GTZR (3866MHz 18-18-18-38)

  • F4-3600C17D-32GTZR (3600MHz 17-19-19-39)

  • F4-3200C14D-32GTZR (3200Mhz 14-14-14-34)
Rest of PC spec as follows:

Intel Core i7 8700k

NZXT Kraken X62 Rev 2

Asus Maximus X Apex z370

Intel Optane 900p 480Gb

Asus GeForce Strix 1080ti OC

NZXT H700i ATX

Corsair HX Platinum 1000W 80+

Acer Predator Z35P

Any other advice welcome.

Thank you for your help

Without a doubt I would go for the 3200. The performance increase with the others is extremely small. Incidentally, are you sure you actually need 32GB? That's a lot of expense if you don't actually need it.

Hello Pocah,

Thank you for getting back to me, I opted for 32 Gigs thinking I won't have the option to upgrade from 16Gb since the Apex only supports 2 dims and wanted a bit of future proofing.

In your opinion is my thought process flawed?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

16GB is plenty for any current games and likely any in the next few years. 32GB RAM for purely gaming is massive overkill.
