need help with my birthday present ! (spec me) :D

you can't have a triple channel kit with the amd build.

it has a dual channel memory controller.

has to be 4gb or 8gb, fitted in pairs.

4gb is plenty, buy the AMD build.

I'm sure I read the i7 is still better then amd 6core?

The OP wants a bit of everything from this build.

If it was just a gaming machine, then i7 at 4ghz it is.

But there is a overclocked amd hex core bundle I linked too in post 34 that is 4ghz, which is crazy speed.

ahh this is just such a pain deciding

the only thing is that ive had 4 gb of RAM all this time so if im gonna upgrade then I wanted to upgrade to 6 gigs (thats my mindset!)

wouldnt the extra 2 gigs be used when transcoding 1080p raw files?

The six cores and SSD will destroy encoding.

The reviews all show the six cores being very adapt at this job.

For games most of the time the I7 was just ahead of the AMD one a few reviews i read, and they were both at 4ghz, so you ownt lose much in games then in encoding the AMD is better.

cool, thanks for clearing that up.. will the 6cores work in the amd2 plus boards with ddr2 ram? and nice to see amd stepping up! but looks like I wont be updating rig soon, but friend has the old amd processor and if it will work with the ddr2 n amd+ im sure he will love it

You would need the motherboard model number, then check the manufacturer website for a bios update/CPU support list.

Ati don't have 3D.

Not true. Nvidia's way is not the only way to do 3D. On top of the normal shutter glasses stereoscopic output, monitors that do interlaced (like Zalman's 3D monitors), or dual projector setups (each is polarized) can also be done with ATI - which might end up cheaper then the Nvidia set-up.

The drivers need to be either DDD (TriDef) or iZ3D. These will allow anyone with an ATI card to use 3D, with an appropriate monitor obviously.

Check out this Tom's Hardware Article for extra info on 3D - especially on the drivers.
