I have a couple of problems with my web site:" Famous Classic Motorcycles" link:http://colinm1.hostwebs.com which I'm hoping you knowlegeable people can help.

1st Problem:
. I submitted my site to all the major search engines ie: Google, Yahoo, Ask etc about 3-4 weeks ago.
I filled in all the details required - URL, Description and content etc. Received confirmation that it had been accepted and would be indexed.

However when I conducted a search for the site on any of the search engines it did not appear anywhere.I asked to search under title "Famous Classic Motorcycles and also under "Cafe Racer" and history of classic motorcycles which is part of the content.
The sites came back with about 70-80 different pages but my site does not appear anywhere at all.

I do not expect it it to be anywhere near the top of the listings but it should at least appear somewhere, even if it is the last entry I would not mind as long as it appears.

I just wonder if I have done something wrong or if there is something I have missed?

2nd. Problem:
I designed the site on a 25" monitor and everything appears ok, all the graphics and desription appear to line up and in proportion, no problem s.
However if I look at it on my lap top which has a 17.5 screen it appears to be out of alignment, ie: not centralised and graphics out of place.

Is there a script to control the settings so that it automatically fits to any screen no matter what the size you are viewing on?

Sorry to be so long winded but trying to give as much info as possible.

I am very new to designing web sites and this is my first attempt Any help on this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks a lot

Robocat

Since you have built in within a "site builder" type WYSIWYG, there's no SEO contained within it as far as I can see, in the shape of keywords, description etc. There are no Header H1 -H6 tags anywhere to be seen either.

Aside from that, http://colinm1.hostwebs.com/ isn't going to do you any favours in the search results stakes. You would really need to register a domain which relates in some way to the subject matter of your website for good results in Google and then upload your site to web hosting of your own. These "Sitebuilder" WYSIWYG thingies are notoriously bad from a search result point of view.

Even with a few basic tweaks to SEO, 3-4 weeks is still a bit early to be looking for results within the main players listings. It can sometimes take a lot longer than that. Sometimes not, but invariably so.

Thanks to you all for replies, very much appreciated will wait to see if it improves.

Draeger thanks for your reply can you explain what SEO means also what are H1 and H6 tags and where do they go? hope its not too much bother but welcome your comments.

SEO is Search Engine Optimisation. Esentially you need to add certain HTML tags to your web pages around key words to increase the relevance of your site to a keyword search on eg. Google
