Hi,

I'm building a new PC and I'm hoping to order today, but I just wanted to get some advice from you all first.

I built my current PC about 5 years ago, and haven't really kept up to date with the technology so my knowledge on recent hardware isn't great.

Here's the components I decided on:

It's going to be used for games, as well as 3DS Max, Photoshop, etc. All to be ran on Windows XP 32-bit, although will probably upgrade to Vista in the near future.

Basically what I need to know from you guys is: Will all of this work together, or have I made a mistake and chosen incompatible stuff?

I'm actually going to be ordering two of these systems, one for me, and one for my brother. I'll be getting the Antec 900, and he's getting the XClio Windtunnel. Are we likely to have any problems installing everything into the cases?

Also feel free to make any recommendations for any alternative parts.

Thanks,

Aydin.

[Edit] Oh, forgot to say, I probably won't be doing any overclocking, so that's not really much of an issue.

if you have another £20 in your budget, may be get a cpu cooler upgrade.

other than that very nice spec.

i would stick with x38 board even though u only have one card currently, gives u more options in 6 months time, to add another card if ever need to.

Firstly, thanks for the replies.

I can't really afford to spend another £20 for the cooler as I'm already quite far over my budget, but the option is there for the future, as is crossfire.

Yes, regarding the RAM issue, am I right in thinking that I will only have 3GB while in Windows XP 32bit, but then the whole 4GB once I'm using a 64bit OS?

It'll be closer to 3.4-3.5gb since a 32bit OS can only handle a maximum of 4gb total Ram and your graphics card is about 512mb of that but it is just a rough approximation. And yes, once/if you change to a 64bit OS you will be able to address all the Ram.

Ah, okay then. Thanks for your help.

Just placed the orders so hopefully all goes well tomorrow.
