I'm looking for a new system that will able run applications such as Visual Studio, Paint Shop Pro and games like COD4 smoothly. My budget is around £400-600, budget might be a tad cheap considering i want this to last a while...i want to buy the parts seperatly.

I don't really need a sound card- onboard is good enough for me :D I have an external hdd for my music, pics, college docs so i will only need a 40GB internal hdd.

Things I won't be needing are monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers and case

thanks

Hi unanimated, unfortunately that sticky is a bit out of date, prices are different and other options are now available.

I'm going by the fact you don't need an OS and have pretty much went to the top end of the budget, but like you said you want it to last.

The new AM3 X3 720BE CPU is showing great performances in gaming, comparing it to the more expensive intel dual cores and i7. It has an unlocked multiplier, so overclocking is easy, just a case of increasing the mulitplier.

Hi,

ro55o has posted a really good AMD spec there, but if you would prefer going down the Intel route, then I would go for this;

He doesn't need a case, so you could use the extra money from the case to upgrade the cpu/graphics card. I'll see what I can do for you mate =]

The RAM fan isn't really needed in this build, even some more serious clocking shouldn't need it.

Save yourself the £20 and plug it into a better gfx card maybe.

I personally would also consider the Abit IP35 XE Pro @ £70 something I think. Good board for little money, but that's just because I like them. That's for the intel route anyway. The Abit could free up enough £££ for the 4870 1Gb on Offer this week too ... Just a thought.

However ... Overall ... I'd probably go with the AMD - AM3 route.

Skt 775 could see you majorly updating within a couple years where AM3 - DDR3 should see you set for a bit longer with an upgrade now and then.

Just my thoughts.

Hey all thanks for quick replys :D Yeah ro55o i don't need OS forgot to mention that sorry ><

I am probably going to go the Intel route as i am more familar with that than AMD. I will probably order the parts between this and next week.

Oh and is Vista worth the upgrade from XP?

Thanks

depends what you do if u want a performance pc stick with xp if u want dx 10 and a cool loocking desktop then go for vista but i can doesnload themes that lookc just like vista easily they are called brico packs
