Hi guys

Hopng someone can help me with a bit of a problem.

I have recently setup a wireless network, 1 of the PCs connected to it is a Compaq laptop with a Linksys PCMCIA wireless card. Each time the laptop is booted the PCMCIA card has to be pulled out and then pushed back in again before it connects to the network. If the card isnt pulled out it just sits there with the light flashing. Once it has been removed and reinserted it works fine.

Is this normal? I assumed that once the card was put in place it could just be left in its slot.

Thanks,
G

PCMCIA cards Ive used you just leave in there, no need to remove them, they are pretty much like PCI cards in a PC in that respect.

If you have a different PCMCIA card I would try that and see if its the laptop or the card playing silly buggers.

If the PCMCIA card is under warranty or you can take it back for a different one then I would suggest that.

You didnt mention what OS you are using so I suspect XP?

Even under 98 I never had much trouble with PCMCIA cards, even on old hardware. Usually just worked straight away.

Check when you boot it up if it is actually recognised in Windows and try and see what its failing to do, IE get a network IP address etc, should be something there to guide you.

Thanx for the reply m8. This is actually the 2nd PCMCIA card, had the same problem with the first one, so its definately the laptop thats causing the problem. Yes, its Win XP. The card works fine, its just a bit of a pain to have to pull it out and push it back in each time the laptop is started. I will take a look in the Bios and see if there is some option in there that I am missing. Its as though Windows just fails to see the card when it boots, once XP is running and the card is reinserted it picks it up straight away and it works perfectly.

It does seem a bit weird!
