Bought a new house and going to be running ethernet to every room from a central rack under the stairs and i'm just trying to figure out what equipment i'll need to get the best use out of it. I'll be pulling two runs of CAT6 to every room, majority of devices are 1GB only with the exception of my gaming pc which has a 2.5GB nic in it but barely gets touched these days.
I currently use a set of Deco X75 for my router and mesh network but will be switching over to TP-Link EX820v AX6000 that is provided by Brsk as part of their BetterNet2000 home broadband, but this only has a 2.5GB WAN +1 LAN so I was going to look at getting an 16+2 SPF unmanaged switch and run everything off that, but I could also do with POE as thinking of swapping out the Deco's for a single access point in the hallway ceiling as that should cover the majority of the house wifi needs (most things will be on ethernet now)
But i'm wondering if it would be better to just go for a smaller 2.5GB switch and then get a larger 1GB POE switch?! No device will be able to utilise the full bandwidth available to me right now, but I do run a Synology NAS (2x1GB ethernet) that streams media across all devices.
I've never really had a setup with a switch and i'm just wanting to sense check that I don't bottleneck things, my thoughts are to have router -> switch via SPF -> devices
Any help would be appreciated!
