I built a new PC about 6 months ago with some G Skill RAM. This has been fine until the last month when the internal beeper has been going off at random points. Over the past fortnight this deteriorated into the computer blue screening for no apparent reason. I got rid of all overclocks and the problem still occurred.

I have tried to run memtest from a boot cd but the computer reboots as soon as the test starts running.

Can RAM deteriorate and become faulty over a period of time? I am about to RMA the ram but I just wanted to check there is not something else I should be checking.

if its a 1156 platform, there was some issues with the cpu socket on some boards. If you've had a serious overclock and the cpu wasnt seated perfectly there may be damage to the socket and/or cpu.

could be worth a look.

This is an AM3 platform.

At the moment, memtest crashes as soon as it starts to run when I am using both sticks.

If I run one stick, memtest runs without errors for either stick for 1 min without anything happening.

How long do I need to run memtest for on each stick and what could cause memtest to crash badly with both sticks but not only one?

Edit; I have just switched to memtest+ and this seems to be running fine with both sticks. I will have to wait to see if any errors occur
