So I bought a TL-WA730RE Range Extender from OCuk to get Wireless internet in my room. You get it Just outside my room so I wanted to get it in my room to use my tablet.

I have the range extender in a room above the room with the router. My tablet picks up my router with more signal than before but my tablet doesn't have internet (its got 3-4 bars but they are grey rather than blue and I cannot go online on chrome or apps)

Ive BT infinity
I did the 'quick setup' (Press button WPS on Router then press range extender button on extender)

Any help would be great

You should probably go into the range extenders web interface and go through the Quick setup routine manually so you can pick the main routers MAC and set the wireless security up. I'm not sure if the extender can work off the button on the front if there is wireless security involved.

You may also need to modify the extenders IP range to match that of your main router. eg If your router is 192.168.0.1 then the extender will need to be 129.168.0.254 rather than 192.168.1.254.

No joy.

I'm Very confused on the instructions I got with this product.

From what I understand I can use this as an access point or a Range extender. I just want Wifi in my room, from what i gather both will do this.

I went through the easy setup assistant but It failed when confirming the settings. I assume you would need wifi to do this, So I'm assume Id have to move my pc to get wifi to set up this TP-WA730 RE.

I tried what you said with the IP address, When I changed it from default it just failed the next step.

Currently attempting to set it up as an access point but I've lost myself from what I gather I need a wireless adaptor in my pc which I do not have.

You just have to make sure the IP range is the same as the rest of your network. For me everything else is 192.168.0.x while the TP-Link was 192.168.1.x. If the range matches the rest of your network you shouldn't need to fiddle with that part.

The rest of the setup was a doddle. Just do the Quick setup in web interface, select the MAC of the main router, set wireless security and apply and reboot.

Okay. From what I gather you're saying.

  • Connect the Extender to my pc via ethernet cable
  • run the setup from the CD
  • when it asks for IP give it (192.168.1.x.) as an IP (my router is 192.168.0.x)
  • when it picks up my router, select it, put in the wireless password
  • after that its done?

just a few questions.

For this to work does it always have to be connected to a computer/switch/router via wire ?
Does it come under the same network as your router for you ?
what do you mean by web interface ?

It's a wireless extender. The wiring it up part is just to get it talking to the main router.

The web interface is the interface of the router that allows you to configure its settings. It's available on http://192.168.1.254 by default.

I never used the CD so can't help with that.

The extender will need to be 192.168.0.254 not 192.168.1.254 if your router is 192.168.0.1.

To get access mine I had to set my PC to 192.168.1.10 for a moment, then I set it back to 192.168.0.10.

It is on the same network as my router and access points. 192.168.1.254 wouldn't have worked without bridging.

okay never mind. I have got it now. been working for 5 minutes. Lets hope it stays like that.
I managed to get into the TP web interface once but nothing would load. looked about and failed, then looked at BTs web interface no job, stuck CD in and just went with that, and boom. It worked for once.
