Hello im having some really unusual problems with my computer at the moment and its causes lots of frustration. when i boot up the comp it starts loading the programs like msn, steam, ati, mcafee which is fine until it starts randomly clicking on things, opening up search option window in startup 52 times so that theres 52 search windows, it then dusnt let me exit them for ages, i cant even use control alt delete as it dusnt work, although i got task manager from run commamd taskmgr but then wasnt sure which process's to stop incase i ruined my computer, im not sure if this is some sort of virus or trojan or hardware problems any ideas would be greatly appreciated

ah ok, ill give it a try but trying to do something on the computer is hard because of it randomly clicking on things etc

Click on Start>Run and enter msconfig. Click on the startup tab and untick anything that you are unsure of. Reboot in safe mode (hit F8 on rebooting) and run your antispyware and antivirus programs. If you have'nt got any then you should. Here's some good ones and they are all free:-

a-squared Free 3.0 2nd one down. Excellent free antispyware.

Ad-aware 2007 free another good free antispyware tool.

AVG free excellent free antivirus.

Comodo personal firewall also free and excellent.

Winpatrol 2007 Free system monitor that blocks any changes and asks for your permission before allowing the change.

Spyware Blaster 3.51 Stops the stuff getting on your pc in the first place.

All of these are free and i use them all myself. I have never had any problems and they are not system hogs like Norton and McAffee. On top of that they do a much better job.

If you still have problems download and run Hijackthis . This is a simple and easy to use tool and should get rid of any nasties once and for all. Select the scan and save logfile option and run it. When done copy the logfile and paste it here . Click on the analyze button and it will tell you what every entry is and whether it's good or bad. When you find any nasties put a tick in the box next to it in Hijackthis and hit the remove button.

thanks pastmuncher, thats what i was looking for, i think it will need to be hijackthis beacue iv ran most of those progrmas and still having problemsas

well i ran hijack this and pasted the txt in and analysed it, only 2 entries came up with a red cross, i fixed them and ran hijack again, theres no red crosses or any startups that look dodgy but im still having this problem, any ideas?

Unless it has improved recently, AVG isn't good at sorting out an infected PC. I'm not saying it is isn't good at prevention, but I found it missed several infections & couldn't clear some it found on a PC I was called in to sort about a year ago.

i see, well iv ran all of the programs reccommended and i still have this problem, i thougth it might have been a dodgy keyboard for a while but i ran a check on that and updated the driver and it appears fine, the only thing i can think of is a reinstall of windows and wipe the hard drives, but iv never backed up my hard drive and i dont want to loose loads of stuff i need :(

If you can download on yours, get a demo version of a security suite, Zonealarm or Norton etc, whoever gives you a few days or a months free trial, install it on yours & see if their suite of tools can help. They carry out a quick scan when installing & once installed a more thorough inspection after updating. If it is still going there is Stinger, that is good.

iv tried so many of these system scans that i dont think they can solve the problem, some proccess's can be hiddin from the system and so probably will never be able to be deleted, i think ill just need to wipe the hard drive, will this erase the virus/trojan? another thing is i have 2 drives so could i put all my important data on the slave drive and then discconnect it, then wipe the hard drive with all the programs and windows stuff on it, then after i reinstall windows i can reconnect the hard drive with all my important data on it and acceess it, or will this not work?

firstly download a freebie registry cleaner :) run that and clean it all up then try

kaspersky

this is by far the best anti-virus/worm/malware/anything dodgy program i have ever used and i have been though all the big names like mcaffe, symantec, avg :)

just bare in mind if you start moving data which may be infected the virus/trojan may move onto the "clean" drive...

which programs did you use from the ones suggested above? what files did they file? particularly with regards to virus n trojans?

trouble is you could use various diff anti spyware progs, removers etc and they will throw back different things some will not even detect what the others may find...

try to pick 1 or 2 with a good antivirus prog and then take it from there

or easy option :)

boot into safe mode, back everything up onto cd or onto a external hard drisk.

have a fresh install of windows on your pc.

then install a kaspersky

but then copy across your old files but scan them all firstor while you are copying them across. and a active scanner suck as kaspersky will stop any unknown processes and ask you to allow them to run :)

iv tried all these programs
mcafee scan
spybot search and destroy
avast scan
avg
a squared
and soon kasperspy

when they run, usually they dont find any virus's just the odd cookie, but sometimes i cant get a full system scan off all harddrives because it crashes after half way through because of the stupid virus/trojan thing opening programs and clicking on random stuff, i left it to scan once and came back with 34 search windows, 14 avast programs and 57 windows explorers running
