Need Help

I need your help guys.
I have just installed windows vista home basic onto my pc.
It does not matter what i do I just can not get the sound to work from the onboard sound

My motherboard is an Asus A8R-MVP with as I said onboard sound.
Cpu 4800 AMDx2, 2 gig ram and x1900 series video.

Can anyone help?

have you installed the drivers for the onboard sound using the disc that came with the mobo?

I tried to but vista says it wont accept the licence certificate for the software, also searched all day but it appears the soundmax onboard audio is not supported by vista , so I bought a cheap sound card that says vista ready, it is a "pcline 5.1 channel sound card" guess what no vista drivers on the installation cd I can not find any site to download them, think I must be cured or something
