Hey guys

One of my family members asked me to build them a PC about 6 mouths ago. Windows now comes up with start up repair. She has tried the auto repair but it does not work. Need some suggestions asap as they really need the PC

Search Google for the exact error message. You should find a tonne of things to try.

The jist though is to run some commands from a Windows repair disc (or original install disc). SFCSCANNOW and CHKDSK come to mind. If they fail, it may be a physical issue with the drive - i.e. it is damaged/dying/dead.

My first action would be to grab the HDD, plug it into another machine and see if you can copy any files off it. Your relative has backups, right? Right?

She has backups. She would not know how to remove a hard drive from a computer as she knows noting about computers

Not easy for me to go round. The system boots off of the SSD and uses the HHD to store documents. It sounds like the SSD has gone. Should I get her to take a system image and wipe the HHD and restore the image onto the HHD?

The system has not been backed up fully but only files. Would this work: remove the dead SSD. Wipe the HHD and reinstall windows into the HHD, reinstall the programs + files. Wait for the SSD to be RMA and do a fresh install once I get the SSD back
