I have an old IDE drive, and a new SATA drive. I have installed windows on the new hard drive and installed all the drivers and set it up.
I figured id try and format my old hard drive so I can use it for storage, I also don't want the windows installation to conflict or anything, at the end of the formatting process it gave me an error saying windows was unable to complete the format.
Now when I try and boot windows from my freshly installed SATA drive it tells me there is a file missing - press ctrl alt del to continue.
BUT when I boot from my old IDE drive (which is empty, as I tried to manually delete everything on it) it gives me the option to load windows from the old drive or the new drive, when I choose the new drive windows boots perfectly.

WHYYYYYYY!?!!!!???????w3RT JI[ERFNKZOXWRHJHIOP(hitting keyboard)

I figured this is a windows issue as the hard drives themselves work fine.
I just noticed that there is 9gb being used up on the old 80gb IDE drive.

remove old hard drive

put xp cd in, go to recovery console and do fixboot and fixmbr

google recovery console if you dont know what to do

-always a good idea to install windows when no other hard drives are plugged in
