Yeah like I've said get a cheap board and a good feature is sata 3, you should get an Ssd with the money saved and you'll have a very capable rig.

The big advantage with getting a Z77 board would be that he could upgrade to a K series cpu in the future and overclock it. Going for the cheapest motherboard available is a false economy as a lot of people end up wishing they went for a better board and changing it.
