Been wanting a nice 2560x1440 27" for a while, and after looking at the Samsung SA850 reviews, it's winning for me so far (although I'm going to be waiting till there are more reviews on it before I get it)

Problem is, it's not going to feel right getting a new primary screen, without upgrading my other screens too, my first though was "Ah, make it simple, just get 3 of the 27 screens, and use them all in portrait" but then I decided it's probably rather ridiculous, both size, and price wise.

I like my current setup with portrait monitors on the side, so I then thought, maybe I could get a couple of 22-24" screens for the side, and stick them in portrait, but then they would be quite a lot taller than my main, so I wasn't sure I would like the look of it.

So, does anyone have any idea for alternatives, or opinions on my previous ideas?

This is my current setup:

18.5" widescreens come relatively close in being as wide as a 27" is in height.
Disadvantage.. they only come in a 1366x768 resolution.

19" screens are going to have a bit of a mickey mouse ears effect but still relatively close.. those come in 1440x900

how about some cheapish (if they exist xD) 1920x1080p 27" screens for the sides
then your eyefinity compatible (center monitor wouldnt be at native res though :( ), and u can watch HD stuff on the side screens.

could use your existing samy on one side too i think

Grabbing a 2560x1440 27" and then two 1440x900 19" seems like the best option so far. From a quick search in the jungle the Samsung SyncMaster EX1920NW's length is 44.3cm while the SA850 is 44.25cm high. Sounds perfect for a PLP setup :).

Looks like the EX1920 is actually 1360x769, not 1440x900, unless the EX1920NW is different to the EX1920, as I can't find the NW on samsung's website.

1920x1080 27" side screens, I hadn't considered... Although, when I watch movies, I would just watch it on the Samsung anyway, and I'm not sure how keen I would be with the pixel pitch of the 1080s.

I think currently, the portrait 1440*900 19" screens are winning for me, are there any that are IPS panels? As my current portrait TNs can get a little annoying with the colour shift...

If it helps, i find having large side portraits fantastic.
