I'm intersested in the Conroe but what's the best board to get.

What's the difference between 965 & 975x chipsets, what's the newest and best for the Conroe chip?

Cheers.

Many of the 975x boards arent available yet, although OCUK is allowing you to pre order the DFI and ASUS boards.

The 965 boards are mains stream and are good solid fast boards. but the 975x are the high performance boards and are the best for overclocking.

any idea of its ETA?

No. But that will be the board to get if your serious about overclocking. ;)

I would expect it to cost a few quid too.

The best motherboard for Conroe for sure!

God that board looks crammed to the rafters with integrated stuff!!!!!

I remember having the Nforce2 LanParty and loving every moment of a 2.4Ghz XP2500 Barton :D

Unfortunately for me, I jumped on the cheapie 955 & PenD 805 bandwagon so will not be upgrading for a while ...

Few things I dislike about nForce boards, but the main one being that all their recent chipsets seem to need active cooling, how come ATi and Intel can both do passive yet nV need active? Perhaps its time they started to use some of the ULi technology they bought! :)

The ASUS Intel NForce boards have passive cooling. Can anyone tell me the current best clocking Intel 775 motherboard?

It's not a DFI, that's for sure. DFI make great AMD overclocking motherboards. Their range of Intel motherboards is largely based on the SIS 66x or Intel 915 chipsets, both of which are extremely poor for overclocking as the PCIe clock cannot be decoupled from the CPU FSB.

There are (I think) 2 mothetboards you can actually buy that are Conroe compatible - the ASRock 775 TWINS, which at less than £50 is cheap and cheerful, but not any kind of overclocker and the Intel 975X Badaxe, which , according to all the people who actually have Conroe chips on these boards (both of them), is a pretty good board - both in terms of value and overclocking options.

I think the jury will be out until about September on which board is actually best.

Plus another 6!

Notice they have been turned 90 degrees round compared to to other DFI boards. ;)

There's only one IDE slot now too, although that's a little dated now I guess.
