need info on new motherboard and cpu

ok guys im looking for a new mother board and cpu setup... the only thing is i dont wanna spend more than 400 pounds....im gonna have to use things out of my old pc....is there any crossfire motherboards out that use ddr1 memory ?? my machine at the moment is a amd 64 3500 with an gigabyte motherboard....dunno if its worth getting AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz (Socket AM2) or the Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) games like stalker and supreme comander run like #### on my old setup.... :) :)

You don't have to spend £400 to get a decent Core2Duo Crossfire setup. ;)

You could substitute in an E6600 and still be under budget, but they pretty much all clock to about 3.2-3.4GHz anyway.

The RAM looks slow (only PC5300), but it's the dogs danglies, I promise.
 
what gfx card are you running currently?
It's quite possible that the best boost might be a better gfx card.
 
my current setupfor the last 18 months is..amd64 3500, gigabyte ga-k8nxp-sli motherboard, with the gigabyte gv-3d1 grafix card,(dual geforce 6600gt gpu 256 ddr3 memory)..gigabyte 3d arurora case, with the gigabyte 3d galaxy liquid cooling system,2 raptor 34 gig hard drives and 1gig corsair memory until now ive just put in my new connect3d ati radeon x1950 256mb card hoping this would improve the 2 games i mentioned before... and it does slightly...but i think its a new chip and motherboard that i need... :rolleyes:

are you overclocking your existing CPU at all?

Most games tend to be more GPU limited than CPU.
