A mate has asked me to help him upgrade his PC, so am looking at upgrading to an i7 with 12GB RAM.

At the moment, I'm looking at...

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

with 2 x Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Triple Channel (TR3X6G1333C9)

but would welcome recommendations for other motherboards which would support 12GB of faster RAM.

I've looked at a few other motherboards and gone to their sites to check supported memory and it's tough to find a verified 6 x 2GB solution with memory I can actually find, so I guess I'm looking for personal recommendations.

They have changed their prices, The UD5 was chaeaper than the UD4P and a few pounds more than the UD4.

Isn't it better to buy an actual 12GB paired set of RAM instead of buying 2 x 6GB packs?

One of the guys at Corsair support told me that if you purchase 2 x 6GB sets that it isn't guaranteed to run at its rated spec because those 2 packs haven't been tested together, whereas with a proper 12GB set has been tested to run together...

Whether this is correct or not I don't know for sure, I am just saying what he told me...

I don't see any 12GB packs on OcUK so I expect we're wandering close to the edge of the rules :)

I see Corsair do some 1600MHz 12GB packs (6x2GB) but what motherboard would they run at 1600MHz in?
