Ok hi all, i just reciently started playing rift (last two Beta's) and after playing another well known mmo for 6 years needed a change.
To my surprise i found my fps struggling to get 30 in highly populated area's ie pvp and major rifts all other times with vsync off getting 70-90 @ 1920x1088 on ultra, shadows on environment only and no aa so i made some advised changes (Rift website)to the settings in nvidia control but still struggle to a decient fps as you can see in my sig my system is no slouch and was wondering if an additional GPU would make a difference or a waste of money at my res and if my corsair hx850 would cope?
Ran several benches and all ok
Thanks

Wait and see what happens with the final release and maybe the next Nvidia drivers, as it's a new game the drivers won't really be perfect for it yet and often beta -> final version brings some improvements to game performance.

Yeah as above. Just wait and see. Could be that it was just the beta build. Or it could be that Rift is going to be a poorly optimised title...

Either way I doubt it's your rig.

It's definitely not your rig unless something is broken or breaking. Your PSU is MORE than powerful enough even for an SLI setup so don't worry about that.

That does sound strange though as I was running Rift at 70-100 fps on my rig which dropped to about 50-60 in well populated areas on full settings minus AA... which is unusually close to your rig that's damn near twice as powerful.

I've not played rift (All burned out on MMO's!) but in both WAR and Aion you could see real hefty drops in FPS in very populated areas and heavy PvP due to server lag. Not much you could do even with a powerful rig!

A Corsair 850w PSU will handle a second 580 just fine if you want and I'm sure you'll see a decent FPS boost.

Is it perhaps texture loading of all the char models? A good old disk defrag perhaps might help?
