Currently have a Geforce9600GT 512mb

I'm wanting something faster with 1gb ram.

Don't care about anything except the amount of memory it has and the raw opengl performance as this is mainly a card for 3d rendering and the preview engine uses opengl and memory from the card for texture previews.

Right now in Cinebench opengl benchmark I'm getting 13fps within a 2x1920x1080 screen setup. Pretty dire I know.

I'd like to get this to 30fps with a single card. Any recommendations from you guys who know these cards inside out?

Many thanks for any help.

What's the rest of your spec and your budget?

It's a pretty average box, athlon x4, 8gb ram and really need to spend as little as possible so i can upgrade other things too, like a better mobo that supports more than 8gb ram which im kinda stuck with right now. Maybe £100 would be nice to stick to but £150 at the top end if its necessary.

After reading reviews, it sounds like a good card but just checking the price of an nvidia gtx460 which seems to perform about the same

overclockers are doing one at £90 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-164-OK rather than the £120 6870. Any benefit from spending the extra?

Thanks for the help.

Yea...the 6870 C64 suggested is a good option and should be good enough for your need. I wouldn't spend £200+ on a graphic card and pair it with a Athlon II platform.

Hopefully I'll have a nice AM3 board before the end of the year but I'm trying to hang on upgrading until bulldozer comes out. The plan is to get a cheap X6 1090 for now and then when bulldozer comes out with its fastest six core model, if its offering at least double the performance of the x6 Ill put the 1090 to work as a second pc for net rendering. All ifs and buts right now though and you're right, i wouldn't want to spend that much on a gfx card, I'm probably not even using what's great about the new cards, just simple polygon crunching is all i need.
