Hi

Currently got a pair of 2 x 1GB OCZ Gold PC4000 which give mes 2Gb of memory in my XP 32 rig. Not going to upgrade my kit but i just need a bit more extra memory to run some VMware stuff i was planning.

Was thinking to get 2 x 2Gb of roughly the same stuff. Not been in touch with memory these days and i can see DDR2 going around cheap which has confused me

Can anyone advise what are my options if i wanted to keep the same mobo etc Was thinking along the lines if i just buy the ddr2 stuff ie 2 x 2Gb it will just run at the slower speed my mobo handles. My mobo was pre DDR2 days so not sure if it even supports it Will this work?

Cheers

Kyo

You can't use DDR2 memory in a DDR board (it won't physically fit anyway).

I think the most that board will take is 4 x 1GB DDR. It's also worth noting that the maximum useable memory will probably be around 3.25GB due to the limitations of XP 32.

its not worth it imo, the cost of buying DDR memory is ridiculous (twice as much as DDR2) Id say wait til you can afford to upgrade at least core components (mobo/cpu/ram)

Thanks i was aware of the 3Gb limit on RAM hence my reference to 32b XP. I was hoping OCZ did the pc4000 on 2GB sticks as i just need a bit more memory to play with when i use VM/EsX

but 2 problems

1. They only do 1Gb sticks (acutally i am wrong they do, do 2GB sticks so just a matter of finding one :( )
2. It end of Life.

So i can't even buy it easily anymore. Going to have to find someone that may have it that not using it.
