By little brothers 360 gave an E74 error about a month back, so while his was off getting repaired I lent him mine.

When I got it back it came with graphics corruption shown here

Its worst in that picture, normally it is only a few models on screen that have corruption on them.

......

Actually ignore that, now its not even loading up and I'm getting an E74 error :(

My new question is can I fix this at home or do I need a new console? Its out of warranty both 1 and 3 year and its also been opened when my CD tray was getting jammed.

E74 is covered by the 3 year warranty, give Microsoft a ring, they usually still replace consoles if they fail due to one of the 3 year faults even if it's out of warranty.

[EDIT] Whoops missed the bit about the CD tray. Plenty of people here have many methods of fixing them so hopefully you'll get a reply. But tbh, graphics corruption to me sounds like a buggered GPU so you might be screwed :/

Try the towel trick? Not sure if that works with E74 error, but worth a try. You will probably need to get a new one sooner or later though :(

I think a few people still buy the broken ones for spares and repairs though so it might help you get some money towards a new one.

It seems once its cooled down it works again. Albeit I assume with the same graphics corruption.

Would it be wrong to trade it in for a newer 360 with an HDMI port?

EDIT: never mind, she is truly dead.

Looks like I'll be splashing out next month on a new one :)/:(

I have a freshly refuburbed one for sale if your interested.

Speaking of selling, did members market go kaput, or do I just need some kind of "skillz" to see the forum?

I bought a repaired Xbox 360 off of the auction site, 2 years ago now, and its been more reliable than either of the 2 I got from microsoft.

If I could remember the shop I bought it from, I'd send you the link, as I personally wouldn't give Microsoft anymore of my money.

To be honest I think I'm going to buy a new one next month. I quite fancy the idea of HDMI and a cooler and quieter console since its home in my TV unit isn't as ideal as it should be.
