car passed its mot today but had a advisory about disc's been scored so im after a set for a 02 astra 1.7, wheres the best place to get these from? seen some on eurocarparts for about £19 for the disc and £15 for the pads. seems quite a good price to me, anywhere else to try?

Eurocarparts have 30% off brakes and pads.

Edit: should have read your post. To be fair ECP is going to be your best place.

Either ECP and get the Pagid stuff, or you can buy Mintex disc and pad sets off ebay. Ive had the Mintex stuff for the past three years on the Focus, they work just fine.

most likely gofor the pagid ones off ecp, was looking at the Eicher pads and discs but after reading some reviews i think i will keep well clear of that brand

I rung around and got the europarts price first for my wife's Zafira then phoned Vauxhall who typically quoted nearly x2 as much for the pads and discs but cheapest for the caliper (that reminds me to get my deposit back) I then said I didn't want the discs and pads and the bloke matched the europarts price.

Have you looked at them yourself? An advisory could mean anything.

yeh gonna give them alook over when im back off holiday to be sure just a side note to that though, last years mot had advisory's stating that the front track rod/tie ends had play in them and the hand brake had low reserve travel. none of them showed up on this years mot. Both mot's were done at the same place

member of a vauxhall owners club? or know anyone in the trade?

Vauxhall will do you a cracking price if you buy them on trade club.

not sure about the astras but i can get genuine discs and pads all round for my Vectras for under £100

My OH had services done at a main dealer and over a 3 year period the pads and discs grew in terms of the material remaining from a important Must Fix item to a note in the 3rd year. Tyre depths were completely random on only when I picked up the car the final time and on being asking why I wasn't authorising the work told them that the "measurements" on the sheet were complete ****** and pointed out that the pads and discs had grown - showed the paperwork from the 2 previous years and asked him to explain.

Moral of the story - dont believe a word of it until you've checked them yourself. Discs and pads can generally be seen through the wheels provided they are alloys and relatively open.
