Hi

I'm looking at getting a new dvd/divx player for christmas as it seems that my kiss dp-1000 is no longer supported by the manfacture as they not releasing any new firmware to support newer divx/xvid codecs. I want to spend the least as possible with maxium of £150 pounds in mind but willing to spend more features.

It needs to have a usb port and if possible a hdd that I can store/play divxs. wifi and network is not important at all, is the playstation 3 the best option out there?

Thanks in advance..........

Playstation 3 is great. You can pick them up now for just over £200 pre-owned* and can very easily upgrade the HDD yourself if you need more storage.

Even if you never play a game on it you wont be disspointed with it as a media centre. Bluray, DiVX/XvID, DVD upscaler, Store all your photo's/music/films, browse the net, stream media to it over wifi etc. You can very easily remux mkv (HD) files to play straight from the hard drive too.

*You may be better getting a new 80GB model rather than pre-owned, as they have the small nm cpu & gpu so run cooler and more importantly, for a media centre, quieter.

[EDIT] you may get more responses asking about the PS3 in the consoles section ;)
