Hey guys,

I have just sold my 5970 Black edition which has been great but I'm wanting a replacement for BF4

As I work at a competitor I can pick up the 290X bf version for £400 but sadly our 290 cost pricing isn't that great so that would cost me around £320 for the Sapphire version

Not sure what to get really, I have a max budget of £400 but I am put off by the 290 due to the coolers being noisy (so I hear ?) and the fact the 290 looks to be great value for money.

Im planning on getting a new monitor next year, something that will do 2560x1600, My current spec is

2500k OC 4.0ghz
16GB 2133 Memory
Asus Maximus 4 (I think lol)
Samsung 830 SSD
Acer 120hz 3d monitor.

Help me guys :)

Thanks

I think ill go with the 780 then, I was debating wheather to go with a Nvidia card (my first love :) )

Thanks guys, I guess the cooler and quiter operation will be more beneficial to me also.

We are still charging £531 for this so a really decent price off overclockers, Off to see the boss I guess lol

Thanks again.

oh stop it :(

I could get the 290X BF4 Edition for £397 today, I'd sell the BF4 code though as I already own a copy.

Its a Club 3D version id be looking at

I do game with my headphones on though so I guess noise isnt really an issue, are they noisy at idle ? if my wife going to go mad when she's on FB haha.

My monitor atm runs at 120hz 1440x1080 is it ? I take it the 290X will chew that up nicely ?

haha sorry Phunky, I could always bob it round to yours one night if you want to try it out in your system see how it does,

Ordered now! no going back

The deed is done, someone beat me to the last card so I'll get it tomorrow now, I'll have a look at fitting a after market cooler on there in the not so distant future

Thanks for all your input guys.

Just thought id throw a little update in here, we did eventually get stock of the 290X and I was lucky enough to get to take one home to try out,

Brilliant card, was very impressed with it in BF4, had my res at 1920x1080 120hz with everything at ultra, I had the CCC open on a 2nd monitor and noticed the temps hit 95 and the fan hit 55% whilst playing, I do believe the issue regarding how noisy the fans are has been blown (no pun intended) way out of proportion, It was very similar if not quitter than my 5970

The card to me would be £397 with BF4 which I would sell for £25, I also get thrown in a load of the other game codes (AMD gold ticket for example) which I would then sell on too, I think once I sell the extra's I get with the card it would cost me around £300.

I cant make my mind up though, If I buy now I know I will love this card and possibly add a aftermarket cooler to it in a few weeks/months time

On the other hand I'm thinking wait for the 290 non X which will have a decent cooler but will most likely end up costing me the same money as I wont get BF4 or the extra games to sell on with it.

Decisions Decisions :(

We getting a few 290s in tomorrow so went with one of those, the gigabyte one, will cost me 279, bought a geil icy rev 2 vga cooler too to see how it runs and overclocks with that. Sadly no battlefield with mine.
