Currently have an ancient 7800gt with an e8500 at 4ghz. Cs source is running fine, but l4d is struggling with this gfx card so i want to upgrade, say my budget is £150 ish, can do more but want it to be worth it, what would you recommend, i was thinking a 2nd hand 4850 for £80 ish but ATI cards have issues with source, so i am swinging towards a GTX 260, needs to fit in a silverstone sugo1 case, and i play on 1440x900.

what sort of issues? in fact if anything ati cards should work better with source engine games.

I'd spend £10 extra and get either GTX260 or 4870 1gb. Both are good cards.

If he has the HDD cage in place then the GTX260 will be too long to fit a SUGO1, you will need to get either a 4850 (which works great with source :S) or a 4870 with the PCI-E power connectors facing up not back. Gainward golden sample 4870 or Palit sonic edition would be perfect.

The new ATI cards have an issue with lighting etc on source, but dxlevel 8 apparently fixes it, so i guess ill get a 4850, how much better is a 4850 than an 8800gtx?
