Hello

My razer lycosa has finally died on me and I am in the market for a new keyboard. Also my naga is on its way out so it may be time for a full replacement of peripherals. I cant really complain as I have had them both since 2009 and use them a lot. I have been reading a lot of reviews, articles about mechanical keyboards, forums posts etc but as I haven’t bought any new peripherals in almost 4 years I would like your advice on this. My preferences and things that hopefully with give you an idea of what I am after:

Keyboard
Mechanical (any switch colours considered). I did try a backwidow in a store and wasnt a big fan of the blues it had, dont know why though. I think I have just gotten used to bottoming out the keys on this old thing :)
I am not bothered about it being backlit / contain macro keys, I can take or leave them both.
No brand preference

Mouse
Wired
I do like the naga style keypad and would like something similar however I guess un reality I don’t use it that much these days, so all suggestions. (I claw crip if that helps).
Not really too sure if I like heavy or light mice, only owned the naga, a saitek cyborg and an age old dell standard non-descript generico thing.

I am not bothered if they are from different companies / brands although I would prefer them to at least look the part. Price range is about £150 ish for both although I will happy raise that as I spend a lot of time working and gaming so its money spent well imo. Things I have been looking at is the corsair K90 + M90, SteelSeries 6G v2, G600 mouse etc. All seem to be reviewed well but again as I haven’t (and cant) try them I would like your thoughts and recommendations. Please by all means ask any questions you feel would help you help me :D

Thank you in advance for the help. Best regards,
Andrew

Yes I noticed that but the wrist rest looks a little off and not too good for typing.

I have been looking at the QPAD MK-85 and MK-50. I like the 85 but its also a little on the pricy side. The 50 looks like a really great bargain and I think the only thing I would miss is the USB passthrough for my mouse. Has anyone had experiences with the 50 / 85? From what I have read the 85 is pretty much the best you could get at the moment but if the 50 is just the same without the lighting, macro functions and passthrough then I may go for that as its almost half the price.

You should at least find preference for a switch first. What made you hate the blue switch - the tactile ("bump") feel or the noisy/clicky thingy?

The Qpads are so so, but they're pretty much the only mech keyboard with backlit AND costar stabiliser (together with the Max Nighthawk which comes from the same OEM anyway). If you don't need backlight, the CM Quickfire Rapid (the one without numpad) is a better option - and usually cheaper too.

Mouse-wise I'd get the Razerdeath Adder Black or Steelseries Sensei/Kinzu v2 - just grab the one you think you'll be most comfortable holding ;). Logitech G400/G500 is also a nice choice.

I dont like the bump on it no. The clicking I can deal with but I have tried both blues and reds now and much prefer the reds.

I use the keypad a fair bit so I the QF Rapid wouldn’t really be viable.

I looked at the sensei raw as I didn’t need all the options on the standard sensei and think its ok. I am popping to a “censored” store tomorrow that has peripherals to give them a try out. Hopefully that will help narrow it down.

I like the look of the M90 + K90's but I never use all the macro keys, backlighting etc. I think thats why the MK-50 and the Steelseries 6gv2 appeal to me. No nonense and gets the job done :D. I will use it for typing and gaming, never really look at it so as long as it fuctions great then thats what im looking for really :D

6gv2 is decent too, except for some odd keycap size here and there. You should get the Qpad 50 then. The money for Qpad 85 you can almost get a Filco (no backlight) or Ducky Shine 2 (backlight).

Mouse wise the Senseis are really similar. The normal (glossy) Sensei got more grip than the glossy RAW, and various fancy features that most people won't need. They are laser mice however, and are quite finicky about the surface (mousepad), but as long as you aren't playing Quake Live you'll be fine
